Arrived in Ahmedabad.
I usually state that I like to travel, but after sitting and waiting hours at different airports and standing in the queues and feeling cold and hot and hungry and tired and sleepy and bored and annoyed at the same time - I wonder, what is exactly what I like about it! :))
Here is the story:
We departed at 2:55 pm from Tallinn direction Helsinki. After two times landing (really!) we finally arrived in Helsinki and had to wait there 5 hrs for our next flight. Although small, at least civilized surrounding, free WiFi, European food and warmth. You really start appreciating such things very quickly - trust me! ;) After going through passport control and approaching the Delhi-flight gate, I FELT physically about 500 dark brown eyes staring at me. Let the adventure begin!! :P
Estimated time for Helsinki => Delhi flight was 7 hrs, and it might seem long, but the time goes unbelievably quickly, when swallowing sleeping pill shortly after the dinner and closing eyes. I woke up for landing. As we arrived at 6 am and the next flight was scheduled for 6:25 pm, we had ENOURMOUS amount of time. And after finding out, that travelers are permitted to enter the airport's check-in (read: safe and warm) area and make the check-in only two hrs before estimated departure and there is no place for leaving luggage at the airport, we felt that we have ALL the time in the world. Clever idea we got, was to go to the nearest hotel and take a room for having shower and a nap. We found one from LP and decided to take a taxi to go there. Taxi driver: Rs. 300! Us: Too much, we take it for Rs. 200! And I don't know, how - but we got it even for Rs. 100. (Too good to be true, right? Well, it was! :) Taxi drove AROUND THE CORNER (literally!), took Rs. 100 and showed us the hotel. Which .. well .. was not the hotel we expected to see. Ok, hotel is a hotel - and we decided to check it out at least. But unfortunately it was probably the most expensive hotel in Asia (or at least in Delhi). We had enough enthusiasm not to take it and continued searching for OUR hotel. Just having two steps outside, we had 25 taxi drivers and "service providers" around us - all offering their "services" and explaining in 25 different ways how to get to this particular hotel and offering 25 different GOOD prices. One guy even told, that the hotel has been closed over a year ago! :)) What to do in such situation? Whom to trust? Where to go? As we had no particular wish to drive once more around the corner for Rs. 100, we just refused all "services". After searching around for some time without success, we went back to the airport and were just sitting there and hoping that the time goes by fast enough. At certain point we decided to try once more, whether we could get into the check-in area - and voila(!) - each person has his/her own rules and this time there was a guy, who didn't care very much about, when our flight is going. Maybe he was illiterate and didn't understand what was written on the paper! :)) I don't know! But we were so happy to get into the check-in area - we couldn't wish anything more from that day! :)) So - we found a nice bench and settled there nicely. Mmm.. warmth! :)) And then - basically - we were sleeping the whole day, waking up after every 30 minutes - just to check that the luggage is still there and mate is still there (sleeping). And even 12 hrs will be over at one point.
Delhi => Ahmedabad flight was only 1,5 hrs. (of course, after 12 hrs waiting, ANY time seems short ;) And(!) - unlike most of European airlines - they provided 3 course meal in such a short flight! And(!) - the cutlery and dishes were REAL!! Imagine?! About the food I can only say, that it looked "interesting" and "colorful"! And I got back my faith again, that I might still become a model one day! :)) I mean - when having only water for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Arriving in Ahmedabad was peace of cake already. There was a guy from the university waiting for us at the airport and bringing us straight to the dormitory. The room is everything but clean and nice, but I will buy CIF tomorrow! ;) And fortunately I'm staying in the same room with the other Estonian girl - so at least there is someone to share the culture shock with.
Tomorrow's breakfast starts at 8:45 am and studies at 9:00 am - so good night!
