Today I made a little revolution at home! :) I stated, that I refuse to continue eating at 21:00 in the evenings and I prepare my own food for a change.
One problem I have, is that I really gain weight by eating so late at night and then going literally from dinner table to bed. But second reason for preparing my own food is also, that after one week(!) I'm starting to get tired of eating same food for every day's breakfast and dinner. And to make my situation look even worse, there is only rice and very spicy (read: not eatable for me) vegetable mix for every meal. So - more or less - I eat rice. (After second or third day I started to wonder, what was wrong with EDI food, that we whined about it so much - so, do you understand the level of my desperation?! ;)
Anyway - today I got out of office quite early and while walking home and seeing all the vegetable sellers, I decided to buy one cauliflower and to boil it for dinner. When I reached home and stepped into the kitchen, there was only mother standing and preparing something. And as the mother does not understand and speak any word in English, I was somehow trying to gesticulate, that hello-this-is-my-cauliflower-and-I'm-planning-to-boil-and-to-eat-it. She smiled, but looked very suspiciously at me. Fortunately soon the English-speaking children came and I was able to introduce my plan. The reactions were like: :O :O :O What you mean you don't eat rice in the evening? Do you really eat only boiled cauliflower? Do you put only salt? Are you sure, you don't want to put any chilly?! Sure?? Maybe you still want some rice for dinner? etc. All the family members ran to the kitchen to look my cauliflower boiling, only with salt - real miracle!! (I wonder, that they didn't invite the neighbors!) They were talking something to each other in Nepalese, and I imagine mother saying: "Oh, this stupid European has lost her mind! Look what she is doing! I don't understand why she doesn't like our food - I put so much chilly specially for her, and she does not appreciate it at all!!" And then children trying to calm her down: "Mother-mother, it's ok - all the Europeans are a little crazy and she is not better! Please try not to hit her with the pan, you might get in trouble. Just try to smile and let her boil her cauliflower today. Maybe tomorrow she will understand her mistake." I was also trying to keep smiling and explaining to everyone, that boiling cauliflower with salt is really ok and there is nothing wrong with my mental health. And I really like rice, but I just want to loose some weight - and that is the reason why I want to change my eating habits. Uhh.. life is not supposed to be easy.. but now it's done! I have made myself some space in the kitchen! (hopefully ;)
I think the event will be in tomorrow's newspaper.
And although everyone are suggesting to me to cook for my family something traditional from my country - thanks but no, thanks - I will not take the risk! ;)
Let all people eat, what they are used to.
